Artist Statement

​ My name is Brenay Spencer. And I am from Baltimore, Maryland. I am a Studio Art Major with Honors and I have minors in Writing and Publishing, and ASL and Deaf studies. Soon accompanied by a MFA in Studio Art. I am a ceramicist, writer and mixed media artist.

My artistic interests include various media such as clay, fiber, paint, photography, writing and digital graphics to represent human experience and general connectivity, as well as its relationship to nature and mental health. I want to document how I navigate life and hope to relate to people, showing them that they are not alone. As well as my process of grief and adulthood. I have been a ceramicist for  four years now. And have always had an interest in art and literature at a young age. I have been writing poetry and fiction since I was first able to pick up a pencil! But it wasn't until college did I start fully immersing myself into my other artistic practices. The process of creation is an art form in itself. My hands, body, mind and soul are in constant conversation with the clay. I rarely am seated when creating as I put my entire being into the birth of my pieces. I am greatly inspired by the impressionist movement, and how those artist utilized texture and built up color. ​My work is for sale, trade or commission so reach out anytime!
