Brenay Spencer is a baltimore born ceramic focused multidisciplinary artist. She officially started her ceramic journey in 2022, and has been working to push the boundaries of ceramic art since. She graduated with her MFA in studio art from American University. As well as a bachelor's in honors studio art, with minors in American Sign Language and Deaf studies, and writing and publishing from McDaniel College. She explores a form of self-portrait using interior space and items that call attention to the delicate boundary between womanhood and girlhood. She is concerned about the in-between space of childhood and adulthood as interpreted through ceramic replication.
By recreating her childhood-adult domestic life, she unpacks the process of personal change, emphasizing how certain aspects of life can remain constant despite progression of time.
Her work also reshapes stereotypes around Black women in America, including the
sexualization of girls and the infantilization of women.

The preservation and sustainability of art in her community and in general is immensely important to her. She strives to work together with local artist/organizations to create and curate safe spaces that highlight creativity.
